What to ask before choosing an installer.

Use this checklist to turn an introductory call into a useful conversation.

Start with your property and usage.

Share your location, roof type, approximate usable area and electricity consumption. Ask whether the proposed system is designed for your site rather than copied from a standard package. Ask what assessment is needed before the price can be finalised.

Ask who will do the work.

Find out whether the work is completed by employees or subcontractors, who supervises the installation, and who remains responsible after commissioning. Ask for relevant past projects and references that the customers have consented to share.

Get the equipment in writing.

Request the panel and inverter manufacturer, full model numbers, quantities, DC array capacity, AC inverter rating and any battery’s usable capacity. Ask what substitutions are permitted and whether your written approval is required.

Separate the warranties.

Request the panel product warranty, panel performance warranty, inverter warranty, battery terms, mounting-structure terms and installation-workmanship warranty. Ask who handles a claim and which labour, travel or transport costs are excluded.

Make the handover explicit.

Ask for the equipment datasheets, invoices, warranties, layout, electrical documentation, monitoring access, commissioning records and maintenance instructions. Agree who handles applications and follow-ups, without treating assistance as guaranteed approval.

Agree on money and support.

Ask for an itemised quotation, payment milestones, cancellation terms, excluded work and the after-sales contact. Check what a maintenance contract actually includes. Keep copies of the quotation and written promises.
